Abstract The object of this Diploma Thesis is the study of metal oxide-based gas sensors. More specifically, a gas sensor was grown by a simple and cost effective liquid chemical method, using ethylene glycol as solvent. Was prepared at three different pH of 6, 8 and 10, at different temperatures. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scan- ning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy techniques, while the measurements were analyzed using ORIGIN and X’pert HighScore software. The analysis of the measurements led to the decision to fabricate sensors at temperatures of 300◦C, 600◦C, 900◦C for each pH. The sensors were tested against hydrogen, carbon dioxide, ozone and nitric oxide gases, at room temperature. As a result the sensor showed a significant response only towards to nitrogen oxide.
