Abstract |
In the thrust to a sustainable world, great emphasis is currently given on emerging technologies that are not only cost-effective but also adaptive to various applications. Τhe investigation of dielectric properties is a topic increasingly interest as it is intrinsically linked to a plethora of technological applications in the field of photonics, electrical insulating materials as well as active dielectric materials. The precise determination of these properties is an indispensable prerequisite for the prosperous design and development of technological materials with predefined, desirable properties. The scope of the present master thesis was to fabricate and characterize Barium Titanate/Silicone composites and to study the behavior of their dielectric properties under a non-negligible percentage of mechanical load or a form of repetitive mechanical deformation. First, the sample fabrication procedure is described and then the characterization techniques used to determine their molecular and crystalline structure are thoroughly presented. Afterwards, the experimental procedure for measuring the dielectric function in both the absence and presence of a mechanical load is detailed. Lastly, the experimental results obtained from the aforementioned experiments are presented graphically, as well as the conclusions drawn from them in comparison with the corresponding values as found in the literature.
