Abstract

We investigate the finite-energy Airy wave packets and beams appearing in applied optics and optical engineering, and we show that all of them can be represented as the convolution of the non-spreading, infiniteenergy wave packet constructed by Berry and Balazs with an appropriated Gaussian function. Moreover, we show that the convolution with any square integrable function produces a finite-energy Airy beam, and therefore, in principle, there are infinitely many possibilities in the experimental construction of Airy beams.
