Abstract

The late completion of studies is a perennial issue in Greece with intense political controversy. This work aims to highlight the main reasons for the late completion of studies at a Mathematics Department, located in Greece, and to contribute to the relevant research literature, which in our country is limited. For this research, interviews were conducted with 21 participants. For the interview questions, information was drawn from the literature and their analysis was carried out with both inductive and deductive coding. Several and interesting participant opinions are presented, especially regarding individualised or general problems they had or have during their studies, such as the transition from Secondary to Tertiary Education, as well as the difficulty in courses of the first years, such as Linear Algebra, Calculus and Analysis.
