Abstract As part of the present thesis, a qualitative research was carried out in order to capture the ways in which temporary work and insecurity are experienced by women workers with part-time contracts in the wider public sector during the last years of the prolonged economic and social crisis in Greece, as well as the balance of professional and personal/family life or not. The research was based on semi-structured interviews and a sample of 8 women employees in social services of the Municipality of Rethymno. Qualitative data analysis has shown considerable job satisfaction, which is driven by a broader sense of job satisfaction due to unemployment and the wider negative conditions brought by the prolonged economic and social crisis during in recent years in Greece. However, the respondents felt insecure, worried and anxious because of their contract. It is noteworthy that the respondents try not to transfer stress and fatigue from work to the family context. It is noteworthy that the respondents try, and generally succeed, not to transfer stress and fatigue from work to the family or personal context of life. It was also mentioned that there is a climate of cooperation at work with both the management and the colleagues so that the emergency needs of employees are covered. Respondents seemed free from gender and work stereotypes although they admit that some professions have specific requirements such as physical-muscular strength. Finally, they showed their opposition to prejudices concerning working women and their recognition.
