Abstract This work is intended to penetrate the world of the harem, into an obscure and distant world that was enclosed behind the walls of the palace. This world, as the work proves, is governed by its own rules, has its own ideological basis and, more importantly, its own hierarchy. First of all, reference is made to a general context around the Ottoman harem as to what it is, the reason for its existence, the hierarchy. Also included are data on the Muslim religion, Islam. Then, there are data on the life of three women who lived in the harem, each at different times, and who were among the most powerful sultans. In conclusion, the women of the harem were already enslaved but had the opportunity to become powerful in the palace and to live a life in majesty.
