Abstract

Employment policies are one of the governments' tools to deal with unemployment and its consequences on the labor market. The creation of employment programs and worker "activation" takes place within a regulatory framework that increasingly tends to "liberalize" the market, without providing an employment safety net. The SYRIZA-ANEL (2015-2019) and ND (2019-2022) governments faced a series of crises that hit the Greek state and affected their employment policies. At the same time, influenced by emerging trends at the level of the European Union (EU), they moved within specific limits, with an orientation towards achieving specific goals. However, the promotion of "flexicurity" does not ensure the reduction of precarious forms of employment. Finally, the undermining of trade union rights and the state's attempt to control trade union activity make the position of workers even more difficult.
