Abstract

Life in the German Democratic Republic, especially with regard to Stasi’s action and its influence on people’s lives, erases the interest of researchers, and is a stimulus for filmmakers. However, the use of cinematographic works in education causes the need for a critical appreciation of films in terms of their historical accuracy. Stasi’s most popular film is “Das Leben der Anderen”- “Lives of others”. The film includes many details about Stasi’s methods and its impact on the personal and professional life of the citizens, while at the same time accomplishes to transmit to the viewer the oppressive climate of that era and the generalized feeling that Stasi is watching everyone.
