Abstract

In our time, the banking system plays a key role for our transactions as a broker and offers daily it facilitates the citizens, but also helps to manage their creation of capital and money combined with the freedom available in the movement of capital makes it capable of influencing the economy of entire countries. The banking system in our time has contributed significantly to the emergence of new services and products and developed the economic functioning of countries. The financial crisis that broke out in 2007-2008 in USA played a decisive role for the prospects of the international financial system and economic growth. The effects of the crisis were transmitted to Europe, especially to the countries of the European South. The Greek financial system and generally the banking system of the member states of the European Union were asked to adapt to the new conditions. In this thesis, an attempt is made to capture the consequences of the crisis in the Greek banking system. Specifically, we investigate the actions that were taken regarding the crisis and the reorganization of the Greek banking system from the financial crisis of 2007 onwards. The purpose of this thesis is to study the effects of the financial crisis in the Greek banking sector and to draw lessons for dealing with future crises.
