Abstract

The object of the present study is the construction and implementation of the new European education policy (2020-2030) that focuses on the creation of the European Education Area (EEA), the formation of the new European agenda on the education of adults and the utilization of the Erasmus+ programme as a means of reinforcement of cooperation between member states, as well as, a financial resource. Aiming at the best comprehension of the European education policy, the integration of education in the E.U. political agenda is examined along with its course during the last two decades, emphasizing the Work Programme “Europe 2020”. Additionally, the dominant role played by successive crises (economic, refugee, health) and their consequences on the formation of European education policy is presented. Finally, the emergence of inequalities at the European and national level, which eventually led to new challenges and stakes for the European education policy, is described.
