Abstract The scope of this study is to briefly present the social, political and legal regime of the debt collection agencies in Greece. The study begins with an analysis of the conditions that became the ratio of the existence of such agencies, moving forward to a presentation of the current situation, presenting facts of the last decade, thus reaching the outcome of the study, which is the need for a reform of the legal regime. The core of the study is the analysis of the current legal regime, with an extensive reference to all the rules of constitutional, penal or civil law that regulate the debt collection agencies. It is also intended a critical analysis of how the politics dealt with the above-mentioned issue and its de-politicization. Lastly, there is a comparative study with foreign legal regimes, as well as, case law study on abusive actions by debt collection agencies in Greece.
