Abstract Today, precisely one hundred years after the death of Max Weber, a death that currently seems ironic due to its cause and due to the strange “circles” of human history, it is easy to be ascertained the importance of his work and the constant presence of research into this great German thinker. Over the course of a century, apparently, the study on Weber has been waned and intensified from time to time. As a result we are lately going through a process of bringing the weberian work back to the forefront, a process of re-looking at his concepts, forms and conceptual constructions. To some extent, this redefinition has been coerced by the unanswered questions, which were constantly re-emerged in the approaches of the secondary literature during the first decades after 1920, as well as by the challenges of our own era, which through weberian theory and its tools may be looking to be confronted. The dynamic of the weberian works, which is based on the vision of constructing a different scientific model for the social sciences, based on the service of the science of reality, is exactly where the desire of science to battle them lies. Through complex conceptual paths, Weber attempts to approach the deeper meanings of human action and its attribution, to reconceive the way in which social formations are articulated and social forms, such as the State, appear. He attempts to distance himself from moral and religious aspects, to detach himself from a distorted, in his view, definition of values in science, similar to that because of which he decries his contemporaries and former thinkers. Further, he attempts to distinguish between science and politics, to introduce us his ideal types, to observe history into a range of possibilities (Chancen), and at the same time he insists on the constant demand for the rationalisation of the western world. Law is a special sphere in this "labyrinth", the rationalisation (Rationalisierung) of which is a cornerstone for the broader rationalisation of the world, while its deliberation is connected with other aspects of the weberian works, especially with those on power. The present dissertation attempts to observe the conception of the weberian Sociology of Law, as to its relation to the pre-existing philosophical-scientific approaches of the legal phenomenon, and mainly to its relation to the Historical School of Law and Natural Law. In addition, attempts to produce concerns on some contradictions, questions and tensions that may exist in law itself, whether they are persistent, or arise due to the weberian analysis, or arise when law is interlaced with other parameters of Weber's work. Through this path, having tried to see a relatively wide range of literature (as much as it is possible in a dissertation), able to observe any different interpretations of the work of the great thinker, Max Weber, the aim is to lead the reader one step closer to Weber’s conceptual shapes and deeper concerns.
