Abstract The present research, within the framework of the Master's Program of the Department of Political Science of the University of Crete, ispart of an effort for a theoretical and practical study with the main subjects of poverty and social vulnerability, and how these as concepts and imprints in the lives of households of vulnerable population groups seem to be transformed under the pressure of successive crises that are either of national or supranational nature. Through the effort to fully comprehend the "new" reality after the debt crisis in Greece, the Covid-19 pandemic, the energy and inflation crisis, an attempt is made to give content to the so-called "new poverty" or "working poverty", social vulnerability or/ and "potential poverty", as well as the importance and effectiveness of social policies to address them. The field of the qualitative research conducted was the Administrative Center of one of the 13 Regions of the country, Heraklion, Crete. In this context, in addition to the theoretical approach of poverty, social vulnerability and social policies, a primary qualitative research was carried out with narrative interviews, through which an attempt was made to draw conclusions about the prevailing situation, how the working force experiences poverty, how income reduction and material deprivation have affected their daily lives, choices and health, what the effectiveness of the applied social policies is and how the established situation has constituted reinforcement for the "weak" trust in the institutions.
