Abstract European citizens are constantly challenged and face a changing labor market. They are called to cope with the need of development of new skills (upskilling) or their reskilling, and to invest in their human capital. Digital and green transition has highlighted new specialties and new jobs, while other jobs are being devalued. To fully match the supply and demand of skills, it is necessary to have the appropriate communication network in order for the specialization to be "just in time". The acquisition of skills must be followed by their validation through a transparent process. The debate on micro-credentials started in July 2020 in the European Commission Communication on the European Skills Agenda and in June 2022 the Council of the European Commission approved the adoption of "A European approach to micro-credentials". Micro-credentials are the validation of small amounts of learning after a short course of study.
