Abstract

The present postgraduate diplomatic paper attempts to depict the present condition in Vocational Education and Training (VET) in Greece, focusing mainly on the institution of apprenticeship, a form of learning based on the job. Given the association between Vocational Education and the workplace, job training emerges more and more as an important solution to the identified skills mismatch connected to high levels of unemployment. The aim is to identify the extent of the correlation of the above parameters as well as the form of connection of educational areas (through policies that need to be applied) and work, generating a mutual advantage that will eventually permeate the social structure. Initially this paper attempts to clarify crucial concepts pertaining to the analyzed issues. Consequently, we endeavor to highlight the wider frame through the elaboration of VET and Apprenticeship policies in Europe. We conclude with the investigation of the Greek paradigm in relationship to VET policies and Apprenticeship, taking into account the comparative aspect to the European cases. The verification is based on study of existing literature combined with derivative analysis of quantitative data.
