Abstract

This paper deals with the creation and evolution of the European Economic Governance (EEG) from the period of its emergence with the establishment of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) in 1989 until the period of the fiscal debt crisis of the Eurozone member states. The paper focuses on the mechanisms and institutions that emerged during the crisis period in order to deal with it, but also on the constitutional mutations they brought about both on European and national constitutionalism, causing a more general constitutional deregulation. Constitutional deregulation, as a phenomenon integrated into the wider context of globalization, raises questions both about the future of constitutionalism and about the course of an emerging trend of global governance.
