Abstract

The goal of this post-graduate Master’s Thesis is to enlighten and deeply understand the experiences of adolescent and young adult substance abusers throughout their involment in the program of therapeutic support due to their substance abuse. In particular, an exploration is taking place in searching therapeutic support by these individuals and their families, their course in the program, but also the way themselves and their familial relationships are affected by the therapeutic support.The research is anchored on the pricipals of qualitative analysis. Specifically, 6 interviews were conducted with adolescent and young adult individuals which are participating in a program for the substance abuse, and in which followed discussions concerning their involvement in it and the relationships with their family members. Participants’ ages range between 15 and 25 years old. The data that were produced during the prosecution of the interviews, were after analysed with the method of Thematic analysis, rising these points: The family’s course in seeking therapeutic support, Adjustment and first period of involvement in the program, The configuration of self and family environment through their involvement in the program, Thinking about the future. The findings of this research display many aspects to the experiences of adolescents/ young adults and their families who are involved in the program,aims to provide more knowledge for a more suitable provision of advocacy to them and their family.
