Abstract

The aim of this study was the history of the Athenian empire to be examined mainly on the years of the 5th century BC by the island communities' aspect located into the Aegean Sea. At that time, the Aegean Sea and the islands located at this region were strongly controlled for the first time by the Athenian empire. However, this survey was focused largely to the Archaic era, since a better understanding of the relationship between the islanders and Athens and how the entire Aegean Sea came under control by the Athenians was derived.
