Abstract

This master's thesis examines the semantic and pragmatic extensions of the language item alos ‘other’ for children aged 5 to 10 who acquire Greek as native speakers. The item alos ‘other’ as a noun phrase modifier gives information about some word of the same sentence and functions referentially to some primary point of reference, antecedent . The aim of this research is to investigate the extent to which children have mastered the implications arising from the element alos ‘other’. Also, to establish the role that intonation plays in the process of processing and deriving conclusions for sentences containing this linguistic item.
