Abstract

This thesis deals with the first short stories and poems published by Ilias Venezis in the years 1920-1922, in the literatture journals"Nea Zoi" (Smyrna) and "O Logos" (Constantinople). In the first part of this thesis, these texts are given, transcribed from the journals in which they were published. In the second part of this thesis, reference is made to some useful biographical elements of Venezi's life up to 1922, when he published the last short story in the journal "O Logos", and the summary of these short stories. Then, the surrounding atmosphere of the years 1918-1922 is analyzed. Firstly, reference is made to the potential that the press had at that time and the journals "Nea Zoi" and "O Logos" are briefly presented. Secondly, the patterns, the themes and the symbols of Venezi's texts are analyzed, which are consistent with the neo-romantic/neo-symbolist climate that was reviving in those years in poetry and prose, while reference is also made to authors who influenced him in his first writing steps, like Fotis Kontoglou, and shaped his youthful thinking.
