Abstract This master thesis concerns the poetic work of the poetess Eleni S. Lamari (1878/ 80 – 1912) under the interpretation of a feminist approach. Firstly, I mention the character of feminine poetry at the beginning of the 20th century and its critical reception. Then, I indicate the reasons that contributed to the omission of the poetess from the literary networks of her time and her absence from the historiography of Modern Greek Literature until today. Also, another aspect of this study is the use of the particular genre of the sonnet and its selection by female poets, focusing on Eleni Lamari. Through the analysis of the sonnets and poems of Eleni Lamari, I reveal her implicit attempt to associate and converse with the already established Greek poets, confirming, at the same time, through her writing, the unfavorable position that she possessed because of her gender identity. Therefore, I focus on the identification of the literary field of the beginning of the 20th-century means of the entry of feminism into Greek intellectual society, having a clear orientation to the question of the naturalization of gender characteristics as topos of poetic writing proposed by criticism. The central part of this study is an attempt at an indicative analysis and interpretation of the works of Eleni S. Lamari that belong to her unique collection, entitled "Poems"(«Ποιήματα»). This approach bears out that the poetess tries to find constantly one new, personal space, in which she tries to build her unique poetic subject (representation of her authorial act). To sum up, I conclude that we can detect a proto-feministic impulse in the entire work of the poetess.
