Alternative Title Joseph Hymnographer's unpublished canon in honour of Saint Spyridon : introduction - critical edition - commentary
Author Σκουλά, Μαρία
Thesis advisor Παπαϊωάννου Στρατής
Abstract The present study constitutes the first edition (editio princeps) and in fact a critique of the previously unpublished canon of Joseph the Hymnographer in honour of Saint Spyridon, which until now was only found in Menaea’s manuscripts. The first part includes the introduction, where the specific canon is initially examined in terms of authenticity. Subsequently, reference is made to the handwritten tradition of canon’s text and it’s correlation with the existing hagiological narratives and other texts about Saint Spyridon. The second part presents the critical edition of the text, for the accomplishment of which a total of four codices were studied. Finally, follows a partial commentary on the canon in correlation to other hymnographic texts.
