Abstract

The present doctoral dissertation belongs to the broad field of Balkan theatre, focusing on the study of the countries of former Yugoslavia and the relationship they have developed with Greek Modern theater (1990-2016). The research begins with the controversial decades of the 1980s and 1990s, seeking to highlight the ways in which the awakening of nationalism in Yugoslav society was reflected in theater of the socialist federations. Afterwards, describes the changes that took place in theater during the period of the Yugoslav wars, but also during the period of the establishment and operation of the new nation-states. Finally, it highlights the previously unknown relationship between Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav theater with Greek.
