Abstract

In this qualitative research, school socialization is analyzed along the axes of transmitted knowledge, pedagogical methods, evaluation, rules, concepts of hierarchy and authority, as well as the relationship between the family and school as a bridge between the primary institution of socialization and adult life - society. Through the method of focus groups, we attempted to identify which aspects of the process of school socialization are considered from the perspective of pupils self-evident and which are contested in the negotiation of both individual and collective experiences and modes of sense-making. In this research process, we took into account: a) the theory of socialization which approaches socialization as a process of interaction/reactivity with the social environment, b) theories of the sociology of education, and c) theoretical approaches to adolescence as a social category. According to the results of the study, female and male students consider knowledge as a tool for achieving individual goals, they would like their daily routine to be more creative, they would like assessment to provide incentives for them to engage with their student role rather than being a means of selection or rejection, they believe that teachers do not take responsibility for their work, and finally, that a sense of community is not cultivated in school.
