Title Η έννοια του αυτοστοχασμού στη Γνωσιοθεωρία του Jurgen Habermas
Alternative Title The concept of Self-Reflection in the theory of knowledge of Habermas
Author Βαρανάκης, Στυλιανός
Abstract This work is concerned with the concept of self-reflection in the philosophy of Habermas. It is divided into two parts. In the first part, it focuses on the emergence, establishment and retraction of the claim for critical assessment of cognition and the reflexive attitude that epistemology must unavoidably undertake. Starting off with kantian transcendental philosophy -as the place that the claim of the critique has emerged for the first time - it advances through hegelian phenomenology and husserllian transcendental phenomenology -as the places in which this claim has culminated- up to the theories which criticised the foundational character of the claim of the critique of knowledge and the whole project of Enlightenment in current century. In the second part, the work exposes Habermas effort to reconcile the epistemology with the claim of the critique and self-reflection in the frame of his critical social theory. Special attention it is paid on a) the emancipatory dimension of the reflexive cognitive interest as it takes place in his book Knowledge and Human Interests· and then, on b) the reconstructive dimension of the concept of self-reflection in the framework of the Theory of Communicative Action. These two distinct senses of self-reflection are compared on one hand, to Habermas own intentions and on the other hand, to some general problems of epistemology (foundationalism, validity, objectivity, etc.)
