Abstract

The present study dealt with lean management methods with the aim of saving resources in medical and pharmaceutical material management departments in hospital structures and was completed through four chapters. In more detail, after the introduction where the general elements of the work were listed, the definition of lean management, the approaches, methods and techniques, the evaluation indicators as well as the limitations of the application of principles of lean management in the public sector were then developed. The review was performed in the electronic database Pubmed. The search was made using keywords from the topic and the research questions words such as Lean management, hospital management, six sigma, Total quality management and Greece are used. A total of 23 articles were included in the study, where through the analysis of their findings, clear and thorough results were reached. Lean management strategies were studied and, through the international literature, an attempt is made to match their application to the health system of Greece. The study concluded that through lean health care management all actions are essentially addressed through innovations for the benefit of the health service user.
