Abstract

Background: Recently there have been numerous referrals regarding the evaluation of the quality of domiciliary care home programs. Health professionals, representatives of those programs amongst others discuss and reflect on the effectiveness of these programs given the result and the data existing up to now. Most refer to the need for the development of a program of domiciliary care with clear objectives and that would be put in ‘good use’ by its participants. Aim: The aim of this research is to be found all the sources that refer to the evaluation of the quality, as well as to determine the factors that influence the quality of the services provided in the program ‘help at home’. Research design: Systematic Literature review. Methodology: Electronic search has been conducted in selected bibliographic data bases (Medline, HMIC, Web of Science, e.t.c.). which were used as data sources. All data collected and used in accordance to specific criteria set by the researcher. Critical review of those data, regarding their quality and validity, was performed and the final conclusions were drawn. Results: Overall quality of care has a multidimensional character. In order to evaluate domiciliary home care, factors such as patient satisfaction, workers satisfaction, organization of structure, process of interventions and the results of these should be carefully examined and analysed to make final conclusions. Public Health & Health Care Management Faculty of Medicine – University of Crete 4 Conclusions: It is important to be established an index by which the quality of domiciliary home care can be measured. This index should accommodate to all systems and it should overall influence and possibly alter the ‘culture’ of health care and its methods of delivery.
