Abstract

The current research project is concerned on how the immigration and the recourse contribute to the development of mental health problems and also, to the current functionality of the Services for immigrants and refugees in Athens and how this is being recorded and analyzed, through interviews to psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers. The data that occur, show the dimensions of the matter, which concern in the confrontation and the adaptation of foreigners with psychiatric diseases in our country and describe the social – demographic profile of those Service’s users. Concerns to the results of the research, substantially, the experience of immigration and mainly of recourse, may contribute to the expression and development of a psychiatric disease. The fact is undeniably, an important determinant to a person’s life and the experience and the feeling of intense stress may contribute negatively to the mental health of an immigrant or a refugee.
