Abstract The present study investigate the relation of breast cancer at both the clinical onset and at its terminal stage (stage IV) with psychopathology, stressful life events, the family environment features, the individual's cognitions and strategies, characterized by a Type C personality. Women aged 40-60 years were studied. From these 48 were studied prior to breast biopsy and 23 were studied whose condition was at the terminal stage (stage VI) of breast cancer. After breast biopsy and histological diagnosis, the 48 patients were divided into two groups 16 breast cancer patients with bbegin breast diseases. The study has been carried out using a structured psychiatric interview (PSE), the Paykel's et al Scale of Life Events, the Family Environment Scale (FES) a Repertory Grid Technique (G.Kelly) and a Strategies' questionnaire.The results of thiw study showed that 1) The features of high moral-religious emphasis and low conflict are distinctive of family relations of breast cancer patients 2) the following individual's cognitions are distinctive of breast cancer patients at the clinical onset "the submissive is good", "the passive is good", whoever does not express his anger is happy", "whoever does not express his anger is successful". Likewise at the clinical onset, breast cancer patients identify both their Self and Ideal Self with a very passive person 3)the following coping styles (strategies) are distinctive of breast cancer patients at the clinical onset "passivity", "submissiveness", "doesn't express (neither verbally nor nonverbally) distress (abstract truncated)
