Abstract In the present thesis the expression of the P53 tumors suppresor gene and RAS oncogene were examined in breast corcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas of the head and neck and in non-small cell lung carcinomas. P53 and RAS P21 alterations were found to be a common event in the development of the above tumours. Mutations in the P53 gene are a late event in the development of breast cancer. A significantly higher number of P53 stained breast cancer specimens were overexpression the RAS gene. P53 overexpression was also found to correlate with a poor prognosis in lung cancer patients as well as with the smoking history of head and neck patients.
