Abstract The impact of Drama in Education (D.i.E.) on the development of emotional intelligence in fourth-grade elementary school students is the subject of this study. Action research is adopted as the research method, using qualitative data collection tools, aiming to prove the research hypothesis. The purpose of this study was the design, implementation, and evaluation of a program based on Drama in Education techniques aimed at developing the emotional intelligence of elementary school children. Following a literature review in the first and theoretical part of the work, the researcher created a six-activity program based on Drama in Education techniques. Through the experiential approach of the art of theater and theatrical techniques, as well as the incorporation of other arts such as music, literature, and visual arts, children engaged with their emotions, put themselves in others' positions, managed situations, and solved problems. A total of 25 students from two fourth-grade classes of Elementary School of Chania participated in the research. The control group consisted of 17 students (9 girls and 8 boys), of which only 12 participated in the interviews. The experimental group consisted of 16 students (11 girls and 6 boys), of which only 12 participated in the interviews. To collect data before and after the program, a semi-structured open-ended interview was used to evaluate the two groups, aiming to identify any differences regarding the impact of drama on the development of children's emotional intelligence and empathy. Additionally, through participatory observation and the researcher's personal journal, data were recorded from the experimental group, where the action program was implemented. The results, based on the qualitative analysis of the data, showed that the students in the experimental group who participated in the activities developed their self-confidence, empathy, and improved their interpersonal relationships compared to the students in the control group. Notably, there was a significant development in self-awareness, self-control, empathy, and the improvement of interpersonal relationships among the students.
