Abstract The main goal of this study is to present and study in depth the case of a ten-year-old student with ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder, with regard to how he is recruited (identified, interpreted, experienced) and treated by the family and school context. The study of the everyday behavior, action, relationships and interactions of the research subject, as well as the perceptions, thoughts, mentalities and feelings of teachers, mother and classmates, was based on the ecosystem approach. The sample of the research consists of the five (5) teachers, the mother and the 15 classmates of the subject and the research process is based on the qualitative methodology. More specifically, the study of this case was carried out through ethnographic observation, interview, sketches and sociometric test. According to the analysis of the data, the research subject manifests on a daily basis intense behavioral problems (anger, irritability, reactivity, provocation, aggression, verbalphysical violence, etc.) and develops disturbed and conflicting relationships with his parents, his peers and his teachers. The student’s problematic behavior is determined and experienced in the same way by the members of his family and school context. On the other hand, the way in which the child’s dysfunctional behavior is interpreted and modeled is markedly different, as it depends on the individual’s perceptions, mentalities, experiences and thoughts. Similar differentiations are also found in the way of treatment child’s problematic behavior, as the subjects’ interpretive patterns affect their actions and their techniques. The present research offers rich and original data that contribute to the deepening and understanding of the specific case of problematic behavior and the surrounding context, creating concerns and questions with a future perspective of investigation.
