Abstract The objective of this study was to create, implement, and evaluate an experimental program that utilized movement to enhance phonological awareness and literacy skills in preschoolers. The study included 27 preschool children, aged 4 to 6 years, who attended a kindergarten in Heraklion. The control group consisted of 13 children, two of whom were attending kindergarten for the first time and were exposed to a Greek language environment for the first time. The experimental group consisted of 14 children, eight of whom had speech and comprehension difficulties. Data was collected using Porpoda's tool for phonological awareness and Troulis, Linardakis, and Manolitsi's scale for graphomotor skills, both before and after the intervention. In addition, a researcher's diary was kept to record observations of the children's social, emotional, language, and motor development during the intervention, capturing subtle details that standardized tests might overlook. The study's statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS19 statistical package. The results indicated that the intervention had a positive impact on the experimental group, particularly in the areas of writing, recognition and understanding of directions (up, down, right, left), laterality, demarcation in the writing area, and scissor use, when compared to the control group. Furthermore, a comparison of the experimental group's performance before and after the intervention revealed significant improvements in both phonological awareness and writing motor skills, which were not as evident in the control group. Notable advancements were also observed in the social and emotional aspects of the children's development.
