Abstract Evaluation is a process that ensures the quality of the work produced by a person or an entire organization. This project focuses on the improvement that can be made in the work of a school unit through a specific category of evaluation which is self-evaluation. This category is a participative process where it captures the characteristics of the operation of a school unit, notes the positives and negatives and sets its goals. Our purpose is to highlight the need to transform the school unit through self-evaluation into a dynamic body of educational policy, which will be ready to plan, decide and evaluate the educational work provided. The work is divided into two parts. In the first part, we attempt to define the concept of evaluation. We also make some conceptual clarifications in these forms of assessment that concern the teacher and the school unit. At the same time, through the bibliographic review, we examine the historical course of evaluation in the Greek educational system and focus on the core of our work, which is internal evaluation. The second part is the research part. Through the quantitative method and with the help of a questionnaire, we are trying to derive the attitudes and perceptions of primary education teachers for the evaluation as a method of improvement and also for the internal evaluation process that takes place from the school year 2021-2022 in the school units of the Greek territory. The research results are analyzed through descriptive as well as inductive statistical analysis. The resulting conclusions are varied and of great interest as to how teachers employ this method as a process of improving themselves and the work they produce.
