Abstract

My thesis deals with the introduction of Law 4823/2021 with the introduction of the institution of the mentor and the subject coordinator in education. In each school unit there is a mentor, who is chosen by the director and has under his supervision the youngest professional teachers, i.e. those with up to 5 years of experience. The subject coordinator, who is also chosen by the director, is responsible for setting up working groups. In these meetings with the other members of the school, issues concerning the school unit are discussed and opinions are exchanged. The introduction of Law 4823/2021 constitutes a real educational innovation. I thought that teachers' views on the matter under consideration would be of great interest. To what extent are teachers positive or negative towards the mentor and coordinator institution, as well as what are their expectations from the implementation of Law 4823/2021 in schools. So I designed a qualitative research and through semi-structured interviews I tried to elicit the real opinions of the teachers on the subject. My sample consisted of 15 primary teachers from Dodecanese (1), Evia (1), Pieria (1), Rethymno (10), Chania (2). The conclusions of the research converge with the bibliographic review carried out. The importance of mentoring-coaching and its benefits for new teachers is emphasized. Furthermore, the concern and fear of young teachers regarding the possible connection of Law 4823/2021 with the assessment is evident.
