Abstract The preparation of the present assignment was conducted under my MA study programme titled “Art and Education”. The aim of this task which is titled “The learning of traditional dances using narrative stories to ages 4- 6” , is the design, the implementation and the final evaluation of an alternative teaching schedule of traditional Cretan dances. The experimental team, in which the intervention was carried out, was formed of 13 students between the ages of 4 to 6. The intervention took place at the Dance school where I teach. The testing team, where the guider teacher-centered method was applied, was formed of 12 children of the age, 4 to 6 years old. They were taught traditional dances by their teacher in Lyceum Ellinidon of Heraklion. I, as the person who conducts this research, depended on the suggested way of teaching through the narrative stories with a creative way of learning. The equivalent testing team was taken by the dance teacher of the school recording his own teaching interventions and his self- reflection through the main teacher- centered way. Before the search programme there was a mobility skills test to children of both teams and a questionnaire during the search, which was giving the answers to the queries set at the beginning. The recording and the evaluation of the results was done by applying participatory observation through keeping a diary by each teacher and by completing the questionnaire at the end of the programme for the goals achieved. Comparing the results of both teams it showed differences between them and proved how an alternative way of teaching in these ages may benefit a child constituting a new way of approaching teaching by the dance teacher and everyone who is involved with the subject of learning/teaching dances.
