Abstract This study aims to explore the involvement of grandparents in the life of a child with ADHD and the quality of their relationship. The research is a case study of the grandparents of a boy with ADHD, aged 7 years old, attending first grade in a school in Rethymnon. The aim is to explore the grandparents' relationship with the grandchild, their relationship with the parents and other grandchildren as well as the benefits and effects of involvement, in their own lives and in the life of the family. The research also aims to examine the attitudes and perceptions of grandparents about disability and ADHD, as well as their support and information network. Three semi-structured interviews based on five themes were conducted during the qualitative research .The sample of the research consisted of the grandparents on the child's mother's side and the grandmother on the father's side. The results of the survey noted a multitude of roles that grandparents assume in the child's life including functional, emotional and economic roles. They also noted good quality of relationship and communication with both the grandchild and their parents. Emotional benefits in grandparents' lives were noted, referring to feelings of joy and pride, as well as in their personal development, noting optimistic attitudes, finding ways of coping and enhancing their sense of giving. Benefits were also noted in the smooth functioning of the family. Some impacts were observed in the personal plans of grandparents and also in their emotional domain, reporting distress and sadness. Their attitude towards disability and ADHD was characterized by respect and acceptance. Finally, support and information for grandparents/grandparents seemed to be provided by relatives and friends and they described a need for support from specialists and psychologists.
