Abstract

In a continuously changing period according to the obligations and duties of teachers and executives of education, there are undoubtably many research questions. The main goal of this research is to seek and analyze the views of primary school teachers on what should be the ideal school principal, what should be the characteristics that will distinguish him professionally and personally and, what skills, abilities and knowledge must have, so as to form an effective school unit. The research questions of the research are related to the demographics of the leader-principals such as age, gender, experience, as well as to the formation of their personality. The method adopted was the one of the qualitive research. 21 interviews with primary school teachers, with a semi-structured questionnaire protocol were used for the data collection. The data analysis was done by using the thematic method. The data obtained from the analysis of the interviews are extremely interesting and demonstrate the different prospects, but also the general acceptance of the importance of the role of principal-leader for the efficient operation of the school. The research concludes that school principals influence their effectiveness in various ways and play a leading role on how the school reality is shaped within them. In particular, it was found that both the principals' demographic data and their personality can determine, to a more or less degree, the effectiveness of the school.
