Abstract The importance of playing as a means for education is vastly discussed among academics. According to the general opinion, through playing the child has the opportunity to increase his knowledge and evolve its abilities. The ability to play helps create a multisite growth. The same time the child has to communicate with other children debating the rules and goals for their common activities. As a result the person has to develop the right skills in order to be accepted from his social circle. The same time, he has to communicate his needs, make his claims and entertain himself as well as learn to listen and socialise. Through this process the theory suggests that the person enriches his character, develops his knowledge and exchanges stimulations. The process of playing also has a key role in the educational process. The reason why is the fact that it is a key tool towards assisting the educational professionals perform better their duties. With the use of playing in the educational process, making the process more pleasant and effective by keeping the interest of the children active and engaging them further into the process. However, the practices and methods chosen by the education professionals may differ from theory to action. The goal of this project is to explore the opinions and perceptions of Greek preschool experts towards the use of play as a tool towards the language development of the child. In order to achieve the goal of the research the use of qualitative research is chosen, since the purpose of the research is to understand the perceptions, ideas and thoughts of the greek education professionals. For the purpose of gathering the appropriate data the use of in-depth interviews was chosen. This way, the professionals had the opportunity to present and explain their ideas and used methods. Finally, ten (10) nursery nurses and ten (10) preschool teachers took part in the research. Exploring the data, the current research resulted in observations regarding the preschool education and the educational needs and gaps. More specifically, from the data it was concluded that the professionals often use only their gained on the field experience to recognise language issues among their students instead of the theory or other diagnostic tools. Additionally there were differences among the opinions of the nursery nurses and the preschool teachers regarding the tools they use to deal with language issues among their students. Despite both sides agreeing that the first method used to deal with such issues includes promoting mixed social play among the students and readout of fairy tales, the second preferred method differs. On the one hand, the nursery nurses seemed to focus mostly on the role of family and their contribution to the linguistic advancement of their children while the preschool teachers prefer to invest time during the breaks to ask questions and motivate their students to open dialogue until his skills improve. During the research the theory was confirmed in action giving answers towards the methods used in practice but also revealing opportunities for future research. The importance of social play seemed to be confirmed as it was predicted by the academic literature. However, the increasing use of technology is predicted to inflict changes in the way children communicate a fact that remains to be explored in the future. Other than that, questions were raised regarding the knowledge of the education professionals and their understanding of the academic theory when it comes to approaching linguistic education.
