Abstract This study investigates the design, implementation and evaluation of a supplementary distance education program for the teaching of local history, and in particular the case of Fortezza Rethymno, in a provincial school inland and specifically in Spili Primary School. Jonassen (1985) has suggested that it is possible to incorporate creative constructive strategies into teaching materials so that learners' prior experience and skills can be activated to construct their own representations, an element that is directly linked to theory. differentiated cognitive and learning styles. Still, educational material is a major focus of the distance education process (Giosos & Koutsouba, 2004). Based on the literature review and the preceding theoretical problematic, the purpose of the present study is to investigate the views of pupils on the use of educational material designed by the UAE methodology in the History lesson. Issues of material usability, autonomy, cognitive load, learning outcomes and motivation through the use of material were examined. In particular, a distance learning material will be designed and developed for elementary school students. As part of this thesis, educational material for distance learning supplementary schooling was created. Still, a mixed / multifunctional / combinational distance learning complementary school with actionable pedagogical principles for exploratory learning and collaborative creativity was planned. Additional material with Web 2 tools and augmented reality was also used. Action research was used and there was feedback from critics in the first phase of the educational process, which was used to improve educational material. The research sample - critical friends - was five primary education teachers and an archaeologist familiar with local history and elementary school students. The sample of the study was thirty students (Phase A) and 24 students (Phase B) of the fifth and sixth grade of the Spili Elementary School. Data collection methods were closed and open ended questionnaires, participatory observation as well as the researcher's diary. Quantitative data was analyzed using the statistical software "PASW (SPSS) 20.0 for Windows". The development of action research has shown that students have a positive attitude, believe that they have learned and that their cooperation has motivated them to approach their subject creatively.
