Abstract |
This study aims to highlight the teacher’s attitudes of Secondary Education towards the implementation and effectiveness of peer tutoring strategies, as means to implement the Inclusion of students with Special Educational Needs or/ and Disabilities (SEND) in General Classrooms. In the last few years, many researchers have examined the implementation and the benefits that peer tutoring can offer to students with SEND. Furthermore, they have shown that teachers’ active engagement in this kind of instruction strategies may set the groundwork for the Inclusion of all students. Also, considering the teacher’s attitudes who have participated in these instruction strategies, many studies have shown especially positive attitudes and experiences for students’ both social and academic development. Regarding the Greek frame, many studies presented encouraging results about the significance of peer tutoring to implement the inclusion of students with SEND. However, these studies have focused on the attitudes of Primary Education teachers. Consequently, this study focused on the examination of Secondary Education teachers’ attitudes. Two thousand and two Secondary Education teachers have participated in this research from both General and Special Education. Their attitudes were assessed by a self-report questionnaire. This study’s results have highlighted the teachers’ positive attitudes towards peer tutoring and the benefits that may offer to students with SEND. In addition, data have shown the existence of statistically significant differences between General Education and Special Education teachers’ attitudes towards teaching all students. Lastly, results emphasize the importance of teaching all students.
