Abstract |
In this dissertation, a supplementary teaching and learning material was designed and developed, called “Walking around Kournas Lake”, according to the conceptual framework of Distance learning. This educational material was created in the framework of the Distance Education for Environmental Education of primary school students focusing on the case of Lake Kournas. For its implementation, the principles of educational material design formulated by distance education theorists were applied and the digital tool h5p and the Chamilo platform were utilized. In addition, a spatially sensitive augmented reality game was created with the Actionbound and Blippar apps to navigate the users around Kournas Lake. Subsequently, the Educational material was evaluated by three specialists of Distance Education in relation to the three Research Questions that had been asked as mandatory for investigation by all students of the Program. In more detail, it was investigated as to whether it is governed by the principles and methodology of Distance Education, whether it was created according to the principles of Multimedia Learning and as to what are its strong points and what suggestions for improvement can be made. It was then evaluated by five Primary Education teachers in terms of two research questions: whether the educational material is considered suitable to be used in the educational practice in the context of Environmental Education and in terms of what are its strong points and what suggestions for improvement can be made. The evaluation was conducted using the qualitative research method and more specifically formative content evaluation. Two questionnaires with open-ended questions were used as data collection instruments, one for each group of researchers. Purposive criterion sampling was applied for the selection of participants and the group of participants is a convenience sample. The results of the research showed that the educational material was interactive, easy to use, pleasant and designed according to the methodology of Distance Education and the teachers as a whole would apply it in their teaching practice.
