Abstract |
The introduction of distance education in every form of formal and non-formal education is now considered a given, especially after the developments of the last two years with the entry of the covid 19 pandemic. Distance education experts were called to provide help and solutions to the new situation that was created, highlighting the main role played by educational materials in distance education. Putting a small gem in their effort, this research work was created with the aim of designing, implementing and evaluation a complementary remote interactive educational material and a spatially sensitive augmented reality game for adults who are taught Greek as a second language. The content of educational material created concerns the culture of Mesara and specifically its material culture including the archaeological sites of Gortyna, Phaistos, AgiaTriada and the intangible presenting the cultural activities of the Cultural Center of the Holy Metropolis of Gortyna& Arcadia. During the design of the educational material, the principles of distance education, the principles of Adult Education and the theories of intercultural education, as defined by experts in each field, were taken into account. For this implementation, the Chamilo platform, the H5p digital tool and the Actionbound application for the augmented reality game were used. The game was created in a mobile learning environment, implemented in the Cultural Center and included at the end of the course as a self-assessment activity of the 2nd teaching unit. The evaluation of this supplementary remote intervention was divided into two parts: the main training material and the game. The main training material was evaluated by distance education experts and five adult trainees. They also evaluated the augmented reality game. The research was based on qualitative content analysis from open-ended questionnaires in a feasibility sample. The results showed that the educational material was designed according to the principles and methodology of distance learning. Finally, the trainees confirmed its ease of use and its attractiveness, without this meaning that it can replace real-life teaching.
