Abstract |
The aim of the current study was the design, implementation and evaluation of interactive
educational material, which has been formed based on the design principles and
methodology of distance education. The educational material was designed for the course
of “Cosmetology”, taught in the Health Care and Wellness major of vocational upper
secondary school and specifically for the chapter entitled "Sunscreen Products". The
educational material was evaluated by a group of students and a group of experts in distance
learning who constituted the research sample. The students evaluated the educational
material according to the parameters of ease of use, the guidance that it offers, the creation
of motivation for learning and the cultivation of critical thinking. In addition, the student’s
opinions were recorded, before and after the teaching intervention, so that any change in
opinions, knowledge and attitudes could be investigated. The group of experts evaluated the
educational material, in terms of its configuration in accordance with the principles of
distance learning and the principles of multimedia learning.
From the collection of results through questionnaires, it appears that the purpose of this
work was largely achieved. The experts estimate that the educational material is largely
governed by the principles and methodology of distance learning and that it has been created
based on the principles of Multimedia Learning.
The student’s evaluation on the educational material, shows that it is effective, easy to use
and instructive while they claim to provide a stimulus for further study and also that includes
activities to develop critical thinking. Regarding the change in students' attitudes and
opinions, it was found that their knowledge on general issues related to sun protection were
at a high level, however, in some of the questions asked, they did not present significant
differences, and they may need more analysis to strengthen the knowledge or more time to
implement the teaching intervention. Through the general assessment of the educational
material, were proposed several suggestions for improvement, while suggestions for further
study are listed.
