Abstract |
Although in the past emotion has been overshadowed by cognitive factors, it is now vital
to integrate Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs into school. In addition, the
inclusion of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education is gaining
ground and allows for technologically supported learning (e-Learning). Τhe use of an
online learning environment and digital material that fulfills pedagogical criteria for
polymorphic learning can focus on personalized learning, develop emotional and digital
skills and simultaneously supporting discovery and collaborative learning and
metacognition.
In this study, a bibliographic overview of the basic pedagogical principles of designing
educational material for distance learning and the content of the implementation of social
and emotional education programs was carried out, while at the same time there were
researched applications of school and distance education focusing on Emotional
Intelligence and Empathy. The combination of bibliographic review data led to the design
and development of polymorphic digital educational material titled "With the Mind and
Heart", which focuses on the development of empathy and was applied pilot to 6 volunteer
primary school pupils in flexible complementary school distance education, coupled with
the “Flipped Learning” or “Flipped Classroom. The multifaceted assessment judges
educational intervention to be useful and effective as the original objectives and
conclusions have been met in line with the literature. Progressive educational and research
interventions in a larger number of students and participation of pupils from an early age
with the guidance of a teacher or adult are proposed, with a view to upgrading the quality
of education for the all-round development of the personality of students who can develop
healthy interpersonal relationships and have success and happiness in their lives.
