Abstract |
In this work, the effect of digital storytelling on the change of students' opinions about the teaching of Chemistry is studied and in improving their understanding of the concepts taught and therefore their performance. More specifically, the effect of digital storytelling is investigated through a story about the neutralization reaction in 3rd high school in two groups of students where one group (experimental group) had interaction with the digital story while the other (control group) was taught the specific subject through of the textbook. The teaching of the neutralization reaction through the digital story was done live while the interaction with the educational material to explore prior knowledge and the study of the specific reaction was done through an asynchronous distance education platform. The validity of the training material was checked by evaluators and their opinion was used through a qualitative study carried out. First, the theoretical framework on which both the creation of the story and the educational material as well as their research evaluation was based is analyzed. The research was based on two axes where the first aimed to introduce a new way of teaching and to study what kind of results it had on the students with a quantitative approach in the form of questionnaires for the experimental group before and after watching the digital story and the second axis was essentially based on the clarification of the concepts of the specific subject that was taught and was linked to the score of the students from both groups in two tests before and after the teaching within the teaching context of the school classroom. After the quantitative analysis of the resulting data, results were extracted that gave us useful information for the acceptance of the new teaching method and the improvement of the students' cognitive level. Future prospects for expanding this research were also presented.
