Abstract

The educational system, during the formation of Crete as an autonomous state (1878-1913) took mass characteristics and was connected as far as its form and content are concerned with that of the Κingdom of Greece. The aspects examined included the connection between primary and secondary education, teacher training, the syllabus, the language used, and the school children’s surveillance settings. They are correlated with the educational function as a whole and its role in the social division of labor, and social reproduction. The legislative and actual formations of the educational system are taken into account, during the period that we examine, and the social and political background.
