Abstract

The aim of the present research is to examine whether extensive use of social media is associated with high levels of anxiety in adults with disabilities. Data were collected using a questionnaire containing 2 sections: one measuring social media use and the other measuring anxiety. In the summer of 2023, it was administered online to adults (18 to 60 years old) all over Greece with motor, sensory, developmental or multiple disabilities (N = 48). Statistical analysis of the data led to the conclusion that people with disabilities use social media quite a lot with the average person being judged as "slightly addicted". Although participants' anxiety levels were not shown to be particularly high, people with disabilities who have higher levels of anxiety use social media more.
