Abstract This research is an emancipatory action research which aims to deconstruct and reconstruct the secondary school economic courses curriculum to address sustainable development through the support of ICTs. The bibliographic and diagnostic research highlighted the need to update, enrich and link the current economic courses curriculum to real life. Besides, it revealed a need to create an open and flexible curriculum that encourages educator’s autonomy. Apart from that, a great need for sustainable literacy of economist educators emerged, especially on issues concerning the pillar of economy. Moreover, it revealed that economist educators use more behavioral teaching approaches in relation to constructive-emancipatory teaching approaches which are required for the necessity to transform the curriculum of economic courses and their teaching practices. The research adopted the DeCoRe plus methodological approach in order to embed Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in secondary school economic course curriculum. This process resulted in a reconstructed curriculum based on open and flexible educational scenarios as teaching and educational material. In the context of an action research, the above material was tested by a group of nine economist teachers placed all over the country who were acting as co-researchers. A community of practice was formed on the Edmodo platform and the above group of teachers participated in it. The qualitative results of the research showed that the reconstructed Curriculum, as implemented, acted as a motivation for the emancipation of the co-researchers as it helped them understand their educational choices by realizing that teaching is a moral and political act. The reconstructed Curriculum has given them the motivation to reflect on the political and social extensions of the educational process and has contributed to the development of their sustainable literacy. Based on the responses of the students who participated in the research, the reconstructed Curriculum contributed to their active participation in the educational process as well as to the promotion of authentic learning. On the other hand, it did not act to a great extent as a motivation to change their attitudes and perceptions. An educational website-blog has been developed in order to help teachers who wish to integrate education for a sustainable future into their daily practice.
