Abstract The purpose of this bachelor’s thesis is to investigate whether the ideological approach regarding nature protection has changed in Greece in recent years, through the examination of the evolutionary course of environmental legislation. The laws that will be analyzed include the Framework Law for the Environment 1650/1986, Law 2742/1999, Law 3937/2011 and the current relevant law, Law 4685/2020. This will be achieved by examining the latest law and the changes it brought compared to the previously existing legislation. The analysis will include the views for and against the law, as expressed by environmental organizations, the business sector, the Government, the opposition and the scientific community, to clarify the philosophy of the law concerning nature protection and whether the current legislation framework favors investment projects at the expense of protected areas and the environment in general, in the name of neoliberalism.
